Lan Wang-Erlandsson joins Young Academy of Sweden as Centre’s fourth member

Lan Wang-Erlandsson's research focuses on the large-scale interactions between land, water and climate.
Centre researcher Lan Wang-Erlandsson has been elected to the Young Academy of Sweden, an interdisciplinary academy for some of Sweden’s most prominent early-career researchers. With her election, four researchers from the Centre are now members of the academy.
“I am honoured to join the Young Academy of Sweden. The academy creates an important space for researchers from different fields to learn from each other and contribute to public debate, and I look forward to engaging with other early-career researchers who are committed to strengthening the role of science in society,” says Lan Wang-Erlandsson.
The academy was founded in 2011 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. It aims to strengthen research and science in society by bringing together researchers from different disciplines and giving younger researchers a stronger voice in public debate and science policy.
Water and resilience research
Wang-Erlandsson’s research focuses on the large-scale interactions between land, water and climate, and what they mean for resilience in societies and ecosystems. Her work explores topics such as freshwater change, teleconnections, Earth resilience, as well as synergies and trade-offs between land, climate, and water-related policy interventions.
The Young Academy of Sweden has 35–40 members from different research fields. Members are elected for five years. Wang-Erlandsson joins three other Stockholm Resilience Centre researchers currently serving in the academy: Juan Rocha (since 2023), Peter Søgaard Jørgensen (since 2024), and Maria Mancilla García (since 2025).
Beatrice Crona was a member of the academy between 2012 and 2017.
