Maria Mancilla Garcia, researcher and theme leader at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, has been elected to the Young Academy of Sweden.

On May 23, the Young Academy of Sweden will welcome eight new members — outstanding early-career researchers from a range of disciplines. With their diverse perspectives, they will strengthen the interdisciplinary environment that characterizes the academy.

Congrats Maria! What does this mean to you?

"It means a lot! It means that I can meet other committed young researchers and be inspired by them. It also carries a great responsibility to help build an open and welcoming Swedish academic community. I also feel honored to be part of such an engaged group of researchers," says Maria Mancilla Garcia.

What do you hope to contribute to the Young Academy of Sweden?

"I hope to help build a collective voice for researchers and to make that voice heard in order to contribute to Swedish research policy. I also hope to promote an understanding of academia that embraces different disciplines, interdisciplinary efforts, and scientific perspectives, and that engages in dialogue with other types of knowledge," says Maria Mancilla Garcia.
