Johan Rockström, Line Gordon, and Beatrice Crona rank among Sweden’s most influential voices on sustainability in 2026.

Centre founder Johan Rockström is ranked number one on the list “Sveriges 101 hållbarhetsmäktigaste”, published by Aktuell Hållbarhet.

In an interview that was published along with the list, Johan Rockström shared his thoughts on the struggle to get science included in the tough negotiations at COP30 in Belém:

“We came to Belém with a major programme, strong backing from researchers, and broad support. Even so, it was an uphill struggle," he says.

Centre director Line Gordon is ranked 17 and Centre science director Beatrice Crona 34.

Line Gordon was recognized for her work with the EAT Lancet Planetary Health Diet. Beatrice Crona is listed for her work on how companies measure their sustainability performance.

“I'm proud of the work we've done to try to translate planetary boundaries and biodiversity into something companies can act on, and that we’re not just offering a framework for how the world looks,” Beatrice Crona says.

Influence across science and society

The three researchers work on different aspects of sustainability science, from planetary boundaries and food systems to sustainable investments.

Swedish newspaper Aktuell Hållbarhet lists 101 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to a more sustainable planet. The annual list highlights individuals who shape the sustainability agenda in Sweden across science, policy, business and public debate.

Being included in the ranking reflects both scientific impact and engagement beyond academia. The recognition also highlights the role of transdisciplinary research in addressing complex sustainability challenges.
