Marie Ekeland appointed as new honorary doctor

Entrepreneur Marie Ekeland – who collaborates with researchers at the Centre – has been appointed one of six new honorary doctors at Stockholm University.

The honorary doctors have all made distinguished contributions to the university's research and education.

“Marie Ekeland is unique among venture capitalists in her commitment to letting research form the basis of the frameworks that guide investment decisions,” says Beatrice Crona, professor and science director at the Centre.

Marie Ekeland is a renowned French entrepreneur and venture capitalist with experience in starting companies, developing innovation systems and national public missions to promote long-term societal resilience.

She co-founded France Digitale, Europe's largest interest organization for startups and venture capitalists, which plays a central role in strengthening Europe's capacity for responsible innovation at scale.

She has also been the chair of the French Digital Council, an official advisory body to the French government tasked with guiding national strategy on digital transformation, ethics and systemic risks.

This year's six honorary doctors at Stockholm University are: Matti Bye, Marie Ekeland, Karen Evans, Stéphane Horel, Ugo Pagallo and Corinne Péneau.
