Are we likely to hit planetary boundaries before 2050?

What are the planetary boundaries that human societies have to adjust to? Katherine Richardson is one of the co-authors of the Planetary Boundaries paper(s) and will discuss how the changing human impact on the planetary system requires a corresponding change in the global stewardship.

How will the world evolve towards the middle of the century?
In the book "2052 – A Global Forecast for the Next Forty Years" Jorgen Randers, co-author of The Limits to Growth (1972) presents his own forecast for the world composed of five regional forecasts. It is a sobering future, unless global society agrees to fundamental and unlikely change.

About the lecturers
Katherine Richardson is Professor in Biological Oceanography at the University of Copenhagen. She was one of the main organisers of the scientific conference Climate Change: Global Risks, Challenges and Decisions, which sought to inform the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Jorgen Randers is professor of climate strategy at the BI Norwegian Business School, where he works on climate and energy issues, scenario analysis and system dynamics. Prof Randers has spent one third of his life in academia, one third in business and one third in the NGO world. He is a full member of the Club of Rome and co-authored The Limits to Growth in 1972 and its sequels in 1992 and 2004. In 2005-6 Jorgen chaired the Norwegian Climate Commission that showed how Norway can cut its GHG emissions by 62 % by 2050.
