In the present lecture, the two prominent international lawyers address this principle both through a spatial approach, i.e., sustainability and the North-South relations, and a temporal approach, i.e., sustainability as a bridge between present and future humankind.
About Kiss and Handl
Professor Alexandre Kiss, University of Strasbourg, is generally considered to be one of the pioneers in research on international environmental law. His numerous books and articles in several languages not only have been a source of inspiration for two generations of environmental lawyers, but also have had an undeniable impact on the development of international environmental law.
He has been frequently consulted by governments, intergovernmental organizations and NGOs. Professor Kiss is President of the European Council of Environmental law.
Professor Günther Handl, Tulane Law School, is a leading authority in international environmental law. During the last three decades, he has published on a broad range of environmental issues from the perspective of international law.
He is the founder of the Yearbook of International Environmental Law, which is the most prestigious publication on this subject. Handl´s outstanding research on issues such as responsibility for environmental damages and the right to a decent environment as a human right has been internationally praised.
