Mainstreaming biodiversity was a central issue during the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Cop13 conference in Cancún, Mexico in December 2016. This includes, under the CBD "as far as possible and as appropriate, the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in plans, programs and sectoral and intersectoral policies“.
