Co-creating sustainable futures for lakes

PLURALAKES is a Water4All project connecting science, stakeholders and case studies in Finland, the UK and the Netherlands

Lakes are vital for biodiversity, climate resilience, and community well-being — yet they face growing pressures from pollution, climate change, and competing demands. PLURALAKES is an international research project under the Water4All Partnership, bringing together scientists, local partners, and communities to explore how diverse values of lake ecosystems can inform better governance.

We combine participatory visioning, systems thinking, environmental valuation, and ecosystem modelling to co-create pathways towards sustainable lake futures. Our case studies in Finland, the UK, and the Netherlands allow us to test and refine new ways of working across disciplines and knowledge systems — turning plural perspectives into actionable solutions.
