Introducing the Rapid Transition Lab

Centre researchers My Sellberg, Garry Peterson and others have joined forces with partners to assess different strategies within Swedish food systems with the aim of supporting the design of more transformative strategies, practices, and institutions.

The project, entitled Rapid Transition Lab, will identify and map risks and opportunities emerging in Swedish food systems after the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning from the COVID-19 crisis, it aims to support the transformation towards healthier, equitable and sustainable approaches.

“We believe that responses to Covid-19 in Swedish food systems may reveal opportunities that can open up for positive change, if navigated wisely," says My Sellberg.

Connecting stakeholders

The work will be done together with Dark Matter Lab, a design and development lab, and Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency. Vinnova, the Swedish government’s innovation agency who funded this work, plans to connect the learning to multiple related stakeholders in and around policymaking and practice.

The Rapid Transition Lab will also be linked to other ongoing transdisciplinary projects that Vinnova or the Stockholm Resilience Centre lead or are partners in. These include MISTRA Food Futures, Nordic Food Policy Lab, Sustainable Finance Lab, and NorthWestern Paths.

Over the course of spring 2022, the project will publish a series of blog posts on the issue. Workshops will also be organised.
