In 2019 centre co-founders Carl Folke and Johan Rockström were joined by colleagues Oonsie Biggs, Stephan Barthel and Per Olsson on the 2020 Clarivate Analytics overview of the world's most cited researchers.

In 2020 they are joined by more colleagues as Örjan Bodin, Thomas Elmqvis and Garry Petersson become part of the exclusive list.

The researchers are selected for their exceptional academic performance, demonstrated by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science.

Carl Folke has been among the world’s most highly cited since the start of the list in 2014. For the second year running he made the remarkable achievement of being included in two separate categories: “Environment and Ecology” and “Social Sciences”.

Nine researchers from Stockholm University were included on the list.

In the list 6 400 Highly Cited Researchers are named across 21 research fields within the sciences and social sciences.

The Highly Cited Researchers list from Clarivate Analytics represents scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant influence through publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Researchers are selected for their exceptional performance in the defined fields.
