Westley, a professor of social Innovation at the University of Waterloo, Canada, is among seven researchers to receive the title as Honorady doctorate for their contribution to the university’s research and education. Her work on the transformation to sustainable development and the importance of institutional entrepreneurs in resilience and socio-economic systems has gained international attention. She has collaborated for decades with natural scientists in order to improve the administration of ecosystems, natural resources and biological diversity.
Wesley was been a board member of the Stockholm Resilience Centre since its founding in 2007. Between 2012 and 2018. She has played a central role in the centre’s growth and inspired researchers and co-workers to constructively engage across disciplinary boundaries with today’s big issues. She is now a member of the centre’s new Science Advisory Council.
“There is no doubt that the SRC has become the reference point for other academic organisations around the globe that focus on interdisciplinary sustainability science,” she writes in the “Chair’s preface” of the 2018 Annual report.
