Five Centre researchers among the world’s most cited

Five researchers from the Stockholm Resilience Centre are featured on the 2025 Clarivate list of the world’s most highly cited scientists.
The list highlights researchers whose publications rank in the top 1% by citations within their fields.
This year’s honorees are Sarah Cornell, Max Troell, Johan Rockström, Garry Peterson, and Carl Folke, who is listed in two categories: Social Sciences and Environment and Ecology.
This recognition reflects the global influence of our research and its role in shaping sustainability science.

The Centre has been continuously represented on the Clarivate ranking for more than five years.
“Congratulations to our colleagues whose outstanding contributions have earned them well-deserved recognition among the world’s most cited scientists. This recognition reflects the global influence of our research and its role in shaping sustainability science,” says Line Gordon, Centre director. “It is a testament to the collaborative efforts that drive solutions for a more resilient future.”
In addition to the five Centre researchers, four other scientists from Stockholm University made it onto this year’s list: Ian T. Cousins, Arne Elofsson, Johannes Haushofer, and Gustaf Hugelius.
Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers list is based on data from the Web of Science and includes nearly 7,000 researchers worldwide.
“Highly Cited Researchers demonstrate significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research,” Clarivate writes on their webpage.
Each researcher selected has authored multiple highly cited papers which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year. Read more about the ranking on Clarivate’s webpage.
