Research funding
Strengthened food and aquatic research with SEK 24,5 million Formas grants
Five Centre researchers are receiving a total of 24,5 million SEK funding from Formas, the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development, to fund new research in food and aquatic systems.
Blanca Gonzalez García-Mon and Jamila Haider receive early-career research grants worth 6 million SEK each. Gonzalez García-Mon investigates fisheries supply chains under change and takes a closer look at the relational structures that enable transformative actions. Haider aims to assemble new platforms for food system transformation in her project.
Laura Pereira’s project, awarded a 3,4 million SEK grant, plans to combine biodiversity conservation and sustainable food systems by advocating for multifunctional protected areas. She aims to bridge the gap between society and nature by promoting agroecological practices and thus leading the way to a transformation of European food systems.
Jan Kuiper and Thorsten Blenckner both received grants for projects that aspire to improve management of aquatic systems. Jan received a 5,7 million SEK grant for his project that aims to integrate people’s benefits of lakes into governance processes to improve lake management. Thorsten’s project, awarded with a 3.4 million SEK grant investigates nature-based solutions for the use of high north marine biodiversity and ecosystems services.
“We thank Formas and congratulate our researchers for receiving this grants so that they can continue to do science for a liveable planet,” says Line Gordon, Centre director.
Formas is the Swedish government’s research council for sustainable development. The council funds research and innovation and is active within the fields of environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning.
