Centre new host for Global Resilience Partnership secretariat
Takes over from KPMG in Nairobi, Kenya. Will act as a support to the entire partnership, including several big actors in the international development sector

An increasingly turbulent and unpredictable world, underpinned by climate change trends, ecosystem degradation, disease outbreaks, and geo-political instability, requires new approaches to development to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The international aid and development sector often address these types of problems in isolation, rather than as part of an interconnected system.
In 2014, The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) was established as an independent partnership of public and private organizations joining forces and working towards a sustainable and prosperous future for all. GRP believes that resilience underpins the achievement of sustainable development in a rapidly changing world.
The partnership uses resilience to understand the drivers and impacts of complex issues to help communities, governments, the private sector, and development and humanitarian organizations ask different questions about the problems they are facing, thereby highlighting novel solutions.
From 2014 to 2017 the GRP Secretariat was hosted by KPMG in Nairobi, Kenya. In September 2017, the Stockholm Resilience Centre took over as the new host of the GRP secretariat. The secretariat acts as a support to the entire partnership, including several big actors in the international development sector. This includes convening and catalyzing actions by the partners and implementing specific activities on behalf of the GRP.
KPMG will continue as the existing challenge manager for the Round 1 Challenges and the Water Window Challenges.
We are excited to be the new host of the GRP Secretariat and see this as a real opportunity to help develop a global partnership for transformations to resilience building for sustainable development in the Anthropocene, by strengthen the synergy between knowledge and solutions

Increase the attention and investment in resilience
By locating the secretariat at the SRC, the partnership will continue to lead the development trajectory away from risk management to applying resilience thinking, and shift to recognizing that all places are embedded in a global context. Also, GRP aims to continue to increase the attention and investment in resilience, and further the knowledge on what policies, practices and innovations are needed to build resilience.
The partnership is organized across four interlinked impact pathways: knowledge brokering, policy engagement, innovation and scaling, and business and investment.
One of GRP’s knowledge partners is the Sida funded programme, Guidance for Resilience in the Anthropocene: Investments for Development (GRAID). GRAID focuses on how to develop knowledge on resilience and apply it in international development arenas. GRAID is also based at the SRC.
GRP’s current partners include Sida, USAid, Zurich Insurance, Department for International Development UK, the World Bank, UN Development Programme, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the Global Environment Facility, the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel and a host of other organisations. GRP is founded on knowledge excellence, inclusive decision making and a commitment to finding new ways of dealing with intractable issues.
