Rockström member of new Swedish 'Commission on the Future'

Will identify social challenges facing Sweden and how to address them.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has presented the ‘Commission on the Future´ (Framtidskommissionen) and has appointed centre director Johan Rockström a member of the commission.

"I am very pleased to join the new commission initiated by the Swedish Government. My contribution will primarily be to position the future of Sweden in the context of global change and sustainable development", says Rockström.

The commission is going to present a report by March 2013. The report will identify the social challenges facing Sweden and present strategies to address these challenges.

The commission's task is to draw a picture of the global changes taking place and to actively take up the discussion and debate on how the world is changing.

The conclusions will then be the base for the Swedish Government in its ongoing work.
