Wanecek researches the resistance to transformative change for sustainability in the Swedish food system.

Wanecek’s research aims to unpack how resistance to transformative change for sustainability manifests in the Swedish food system. His research includes exploring the role of alternative business models in future scenarios of food systems that uphold social floors while operating within ecological ceilings. This entails both looking at economic and organisational structures, as well as the power configurations that arise from these. His PhD is part of the Mistra Food Futures research programme, specifically the Scenarios work package.

Wanecek has a mutli-disciplinary background, with a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering at Lund University, prior to which he worked as a software engineer. Driven by an interest in the sociopolitical dynamics of climate change, he pivoted to a Master’s in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science at LUCSUS, offering interdisciplinary and critical perspectives on sustainability.

During the fall of 2025, Wilhelm will be one of two PhD students organising the course Världens Eko.
