Recreation and biodiversity values in Stockholm.
Integrated social-ecological research for urban policy development in the Stockholm region
The work of this sub-theme focuses on the larger Stockholm metropolitan area and involves research on the role of institutions, social networks, and local user groups in the governance and management of urban ecosystem services.
The research has resulted in two 2008 doctoral theses by Henrik Ernstson and Stephan Barthel and two more to come, as well as a number of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, etc.

Of special interest is to accumulate insights on integrated urban social-ecological designs that better account for ecosystem processes and a wider participation of stakeholders in ecosystem management in urban areas.

The sub-theme is envisioned to generate insights and contribute to knowledge on the urban biosphere concept.
