Large sums of money are spent every year in order to conduct research throughout the Swedish forest. However, the results are not always apparent to the eye. During the last few years, attention has been given to the mechanics of the process that leads to research conclusions and the importance this has for the results to be both meaningful and useful. In this respect, communication and cooperation often play a vital role. The first day of Future Forest Week will be dedicated to communication with the Swedish forest as a focal point. Experts from the areas of information, communication and research-and development departments within organizations are welcomed to the seminar.
The goal is to look at different ways the art of communication can be used to ease and support the process between research and implementation. What works in the real world (and what does not work) and how research and society can cooperate and interact will be identified during the day.
Researcher Karin Beland Lindahl also tells what really happened during the 2002 government mandate to protect forests considered to be of high value in nature. In Jokkmokk municipality the conflict between different interests—forestry corporations, sawmill owners, Sami villages, Greenpeace and others—became inflamed. Karin Beland Lindahl conducted a study in order to perceive the world from the different players´ viewpoints and she examines what can be learned from this.
The second day will be dedicated to an excursion to Flakaliden/Strömsjöliden. Researchers from Future Forest will guide the tour. The rest of the week Future Forest will conduct closed workshops and meetings.
“This week will be packed with activities and will engage people from many different organizations. It will be fun and exciting," says Anders Esselin, communication strategist for Future Forest/SLU (The Swedish Agricultural University in Uppsala).
