Björn Dahlbäck has been program manager for Mistra´s Marine Paint for the last five years. “I look at it as an important experience when I now go on to head the Polar Research Secretariat. Marine Paint has developed and fine-tuned my abilities to manage research across the borders of different institutional departments," says Björn Dahlbäck.
He is not new to the field of polar research. When the Swedish icebreaker Ymer made its Arctic trip in 1980, Dahlbäck was part of the team of microbiologists.
“It's a wonderful experience to be able to return to polar research. It is an area we need to understand in order to also understand global climate change," he says.
Dahlbäck takes office on January 1st. His appointment as Chief Executive and Director extends until December 31st, 2015.
It has not been decided who will succeed Dahlbäck as program manager for Marine Paint.
The Polar Research Secretariat is a government agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, with the mission to promote Swedish Polar research.
