Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) seldom have the resources that investing in innovative research and development (R&D) requires. Mistra Innovation caters for those that wish to develop innovative ideas with great environmental potential, through the application of new expertise from higher education institutions or research institutes (HEIs/RIs), into products and processes that can be commercialised. The aim is to develop ideas and discoveries into specific products and services that can have a direct, favourable influence on the environmental profile in various spheres of activity. Mistra invites SMEs in such sectors as manufacturing, food, energy and recycling to submit joint applications with scientists from HEIs/RIs.
The overarching objective of Mistra´s work is to contribute to sustainable development of society and strengthen Swedish competitiveness, while finding concrete solutions to environmental problems. The Mistra Innovation research programme enables SMEs to develop ideas into commercially viable products and services of measurable environmental benefit.
The closing date for applications to the Mistra Innovation research programme was 17 October. Gratifyingly, there has been massive interest: 43 applications for a total of SEK 156 million, from all over Sweden, have been submitted. Mistra Innovation has SEK 40m to distribute for the four years ahead, and the plan is to allocate SEK 20m in the current call. The applications will now be scrutinised and decisions on award of funding will be announced in mid-December.
