Mistra grants Idea Support for new projects

Mistra has granted idea support for six new projects. The support will enable researchers to try new approaches to solving environmental problems.

Interest in Mistra´s offer of idea support was greater than ever in 2005. More than 150 applications for such support were submitted. An international assessment panel selected 15 of these to go on to the second round of the application process. The Board selected six winning projects among the finalists for funding.

- A particularly gratifying feature is the powerful combination of new thinking and great potential environmental value in so many of the applications, saysMarie Uhrwing , Programme Director at Mistra.

The aim of Mistra´s idea support is to contribute to the realization of innovative research projects that have great environmental improvement potential. Projects must be bold, original and creative to be eligible for idea support. The research should be pioneering and innovative and/or should not take anything for granted. It may also explicitly challenge established dogma. Applications are welcomed from all disciplines.

- Several of the winning projects involve innovations that use new technologies to make environmentally sounder solutions more widely available and cheaper. The concepts here really are new, she adds.

The following projects will receive idea support:
