Do the unexpected! Human beings have been ill-prepared for sudden changes in economic and ecological processes. It is important to plan for the unknown.  This presupposes not only an alert world watch but also, even more importantly, a look toward the Future with an open mind, according to what Ola Engelmark, CEO of Mistra, writes in his annual report column.
The results of the research initiated by Mistra should be used. Either as a knowledge base for politicians and other decision makers, or as environmentally adjusted products, processes or services.  These results are thoroughly described in the annual report.

It is also describing the research that should contribute to more effective energy usage and transports, toxic free and energy saving cycles, sustainable production, consumption and economizing with land, water and urbanized areas.

During 2008 Mistra financed twenty larger research programs. In the annual report these have been devided into two areas, depending on how the results are being used: environmental driven business development or knowledge base for administrations and politics.
