I participated in the Sustainable Enterprising programme in 2007-8. The reason why I chose this was first of all my interest in environmental issues. After finishing my bachelor's degree in Comparative Politics in Norway, which were very theoretical studies, I felt a need for something that could give me more practical tools to enter the workplace. The programme gave me a good balance of both theoretical and practical knowledge. Combined with its transdisciplinary approach it was both very interesting and useful.
Master thesis resulted in a job
Today, I am working as an environmental advisor in a company called GRIP in Norway. We are 25 advisors working with the exact same issues as the course covered, in both private firms and public organisations.
My thesis was central in getting me the job I have today. Since we were encouraged to do the thesis in collaboration with an organisation or company I contacted GRIP. For them it was very attractive to have a student. I was able to do a job they did not have time to do. While, for me being able to write the thesis in an actual work-setting helped me make the most of it. After finishing my thesis I was made an advisor in the firm.
I now find that almost every aspect of what I learned in the programme is useful when working in this area.
