I am currently waiting to enrol for a PhD in Geography either at the University of Glasgow, Scotland or University of Auckland, New Zealand, were I intend to research into the linkages between rural poverty and environmental degradation in the Upper East Region of Ghana. When I enrolled for NGG, I did not really know what to expect given that we were the pioneer class and did not have any predecessors to learn from. However, NGG turned out to be a very rewarding learning experience that is quite unique compared to my earlier studies.
First, the students were from diverse academic and social backgrounds and from all over the world. Secondly, we had the opportunity to be taught by teachers who are at the top of current research in ecosystem/natural resource management.
I have no doubt that my studies in NGG will come in handy when I finally start my PhD. I have fond memories of my NGG colleagues who were remarkable both in and out of class and now scattered all over the world.
