Born in 1952 in México City, México. Miguel studied biology, and continued with Master and Ph.D. studies in Biological Sciences. During the studies in 1982 he stayed for 6.5 months at the Department of Geology at Stockholm University and received a Training on Analytical and Field Methods applied to Biogeochemistry in Water Environments with Prof. Rolf Hallberg as advisor.In 1987 he received a scholarship from the Swedish Institute for 9 months to work on his doctoral thesis under guidance of Prof. Rolf Hallberg and Prof. Fredrik Wulff at the Department of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University.
He got his doctoral degree in 1989.
Previous work experience include Research Engineer at the Institute of Biology, National University of Mexico (1976- March 1990).
In April 1990 he moved to Sweden and started working at the Department of Systems Ecology,Stockholm University until his change of adscription to the recently created Baltic Nest Institute at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University in March 2007.
His role since he started at the Stockholm University has been to administrate the Baltic Environmental Database and related activities as assist different scientists and research groups with data, and updated different web pages with maps, documentation on the database.
