Daniel C. Reed is an oceanographer based at centre partner Baltic Nest Institute specialising in the study of seafloor biogeochemistry. Through the application of mathematical models, he explores sedimentary nutrient dynamics and the interplay between benthic communities and their habitat. He is presently interested in the response of sedimentary systems to environmental change, such as the arrival of invasive species and the spread of hypoxia. He also employs these models to help reconstruct past environments and events in the Earth's history.
Prior to joining the Baltic Nest Institute, Reed graduated with a PhD in Oceanography from Dalhousie Unversity, Canada, under the supervision of Bernard Boudreau and undertook post-doctoral work with Caroline Slomp at Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
