Markus graduated in economics at Uppsala University in 1996 and specialized in environmental economics at SLU. Since then he has been teaching environmental economics and developmental studies at several Swedish universities. Presently he teaches ecological economics at Stockholm University and Mälardalen University, where he is also enrolled as a PhD student. He has been engaged in two different EU-financed projects, Baltic Ecologic Recycling Agriculture and Society (BERAS) and Governance and Ecosystem Management for the Conservation of Biodiversity (GEMCONBIO).
BERAS finished in February 2006 and GEMCOMBIO runs until April 2008. Both projects study environmental and socio-economic effects of organic food production.
Markus has previously worked as a consultant and for different NG's including Forum Syd, DemokratiAkademin and London based New Economics Foundation.
