Her main interest is on the relationship between humans and nature and to understand institutional dynamics affecting natural resource use and management leading systems into sustainable or unsustainable ways.

She works with a complex adaptive systems evolutionary approach and institutional issues in a broad sense, considering normative, cultural and regulatory aspects. She does comparative studies addressing management of marine resources, livelihood diversification, poverty and finally institutions and governance.

Her research has been focused on different goods associated to seagrasses, i.e. fish, shell-fish, sea cucumbers and sea urchins.
