PhD student in managing ecosystem service bundles
Over the past decade there has been an “explosion of interest” in the ecosystem service concept. However, understanding how to govern and manage for the resilience of multiple ecosystem services remains fragmented. Managing bundles of ecosystem services, the components of which contribute to different aspects of wellbeing for different groups of people, is a key challenge for sustainable development at local and global scales. The research project under which this PhD project falls, aims to contribute to bridging this gap. The project analyzes trade-offs and synergies among key provisioning, regulating, and cultural ecosystem services in the Helgeå catchment in southeastern Sweden. The aim of is to better understand different perspectives on values in the landscape, and jointly identify opportunities for co-management of ecosystem services in this type of multi-functional landscape.
