Markku Pyykönen has a Fil. Lic degree in physical geography and specialized in spatial analyses utilizing GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and Remote Sensing (aerial photography and satellite images). Since 2008 he is working as GIS Manager at the Landscape/Seascape lab. at Stockholm Resilience Centre. After working 10 years at the Dept. of African and Comparative Archaeology at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden he has achieved extensive international experience from working in projects mainly in developing countries in Africa and South Asia. 2006-2007 he was employed as GIS Manager by the Dept. of Systems Ecology at Stockholm University. He has also a broad experience in teaching GIS and remote sensing at universities in Sweden,Africa and Asiaat both graduate as well as postgraduate levels. Annual courses will be given for postgraduate students and researchers at the Resilience Centre.Markku Pyykönen will participate in a number of different projects and he will also be a resource person in all kinds of spatial analyses for the Resilience Centre and affiliates.
